Cava (Spanish sparkling wine) can be made from Chardonnay grapes. The following content is accessible for members only, please sign in.
While the main grapes used to make Cava are the indigenous varieties Macabeo, Parellada, and Xarel-lo, Chardonnay is also one of the legally permitted varieties. It can be used on its own or in a blend to add finesse and freshness to the final flavor. As for the main varieties used, Macabeo is fruity and aromatic with good acidity. Parellada is the most delicate of these Spanish grapes, and Xarel-lo gives Cava lots of its personality by contributing good acidity and a generous, round body.
