In March 2026, the federal government officially established two new wine regions (known as AVAs—American Viticultural Areas) simultaneously: Nashoba Valley in Massachusetts and Nine Lakes of East Tennessee in Tennessee. Starting in April 2026, vintners can officially use these names on their bottles, provided at least 85% of the grapes used in a wine were grown within the specified boundaries of the AVA. The new AVAs give each region a defined geographic designation based on the region’s soils, topography, and climate.
