Although Piedmont, Italy is widely known for stunning Barolo and Barbaresco made from Nebbiolo grapes, the second most planted grape in Piedmont—after Barbera—is Moscato. The town of Asti in Piedmont will forever be linked with Moscato. The two Moscato-based wines take their names from Asti: the gorgeous, low-alcohol wine Moscato d’Asti, and the slightly sweet commercial sparkling wine, Asti (formerly known as Asti Spumante).
