The largest empanada ever made was recorded in 2017 and weighed 1,200 pounds according to the Guinness Book of World Records. It took workers one week to make the giant filled pastry, using 550 pounds of onions, 155 pounds of beef, 99 pounds of chicken, 11 pounds of olives, 5 pounds of dried raisins, and 150 eggs. The empanada was made in Pomaire, Chile—just outside of Santiago—with the goal of bringing attention to the small village.
