Pinot Grigio is genetically related to Pinot Noir. The following content is accessible for members only, please sign in.
Over the two thousand years of Pinot Noir’s known existence—the grape may be much older—it has spawned a number of tasty genetic mutations of itself, including Pinot Grigio. Also known as Pinot Gris (gris means gray in French), the pinkish-gray hued grape is the result of a color mutation in Pinot Noir. Pinot Grigio has a lower concentration of pigment and is therefore used to make a white wine instead of a red wine.
