Also known as “buchette del vino,” wine windows have been a part of Italian culture for about 500 years, according to National Geographic. These small windows, found especially in the city of Florence, were once used to sell wine to the city’s residents because the water was not safe to drink. Consuming wine was a matter of safety. After almost completely dying out, the tradition was resurrected in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, there are about 10 windows open throughout the city.
