The Languedoc region derives its name from Occitan, the language and group of dialects spoken in southern France in the Middle Ages. Occitan was also referred to as langue d’oc, which translates to “the language of yes.” South of the Loire, the word for “yes” was oc (an abbreviation of Occitan), derived from the Latin word hoc. In northern France, the Old French word for “yes” was oïl, which later evolved to oui.  Today, the Languedoc is the largest wine-producing region in France. The region’s best wines are its reds, which possess a minerally, juicy, earthy, sensual “south of France” flavor that’s irresistible. To which we say, yes, please!
