If you’ve ever become dehydrated while drinking wine, it may surprise you to remember that wine is mostly water. Approximately 85% of the total volume in your glass of wine is water. That means a 5-ounce glass of wine may contain over 4 ounces of water. Other components in wine include alcohol (about 8-15% abv in naturally fermented wines), glycerol (1%), acids (0.5%), possibly tiny amounts of residual sugar, and trace amounts of other compounds. A wine with higher alcohol content will have lower water content.
