The Loire Valley takes its name from the 630-mile long Loire River which runs from the Massif Central mountain range in the heart of France to the city of Nantes on the Atlantic coast. Virtually every style of wine is made here—from dry to sweet, red to white, and still to sparkling. Wine drinkers may know many of the Loire’s most famous wines including, Muscadet, Vouvray, Sancerre, and Chinon. The region, with its stunning turreted castles, is known as the “garden of France” because some of France’s best produce is grown there.
