Koshu is a white wine grape variety named after the region where it originates—Koshu Valley in Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan. The grape is actually a cross of Vitis vinifera and an east Asian Vitis species. The flavors of Koshu are said to be similar to that of Japanese cuisine—subtle and minimalistic. Japanese-American owned Kazumi Winery in Napa Valley is the first and only winery currently making Koshu in the US. May 1^st marks the beginning of Asian American and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month.
