When it was released, the 1966 Heitz Cellars “Martha’s Vineyard” was the first wine to be labeled with the name of the vineyard on the front of the bottle.  At $7 a bottle, it was also astronomically expensive since Heitz’s regular cabernet sauvignon, released just three years earlier, was only $1.63 a bottle. Located on the west side of Oakville, Napa Valley, Martha’s Vineyard is surrounded by giant eucalyptus trees, often credited as the source for the wine’s distinctive minty aroma and flavor.
