Sekt (pronounced “zecht”) is the German term for sparkling wine. Most of the sekt made in Germany and Austria is light, clean, and uncomplicated. These bargain versions of sekt are made in bulk by using large tanks to perform secondary fermentation. The finer versions (which are increasingly made) are made in small lots using the traditional Champagne method. October 22^nd is Austrian Sekt day.
